We hereby strongly request the people from the Facebook to show your
justice on BBC and to take action on reporter Anna Jones for her
responsibility concerning to her previous article on
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-11595983, showing an
un-acceptable Myanmar Map with Rohingya people depicting on the Rakhine
State instead of original Rakhine/Arakanese people's pictured who have
been there for centuries. We (both of Myanmar and Arakanese people) need
an apology from BBC and the reporter for their mistake and a
transparent investigation on Anna Jones for what she did, how she got
the source to write this article and who have supported her!
We understand that there are so many minorities living in our
country. We have Indians, Chinese, Bangladeshi and over 100 national
races of Myanmar. However, they should realize that Indians, Chinese and
Bangladeshi are not denied to Myanmar citizenship after living some
period of time in Burma but they are not our ethnics. However, the term
so-called Rohingya has never existed in our story and we have never
heard of it. This name was created not long ago by the educated Bengali
Muslim in order to establish Arakan as an Islamic state and to influence
Islam to the whole of south-east Asia. Therefore, excluding native
people of Arakan like Rakhine (Arakanese) from Myanmar map and including
so-called Rohingya is clearly sign of insulting to our people. They
said that they were intended to flag up and showed readers the state in
which so-called Rohingya live.
However, they realize that considerable amount of other minorities’
population such as Thet, Mro, Chin, Burmese, Marama and Kamen are also
living in Arakan and they are our ethnic sisters and brothers. So, why
don't they try to intend to show those people? Why this so-called
Rohingya? However, they attempt to use the word “ethnic” for so-called
Rohingya is deeply insulting to the people of Arakan and Burma. The
article and the map would become as documentation in recognition of
political and historical contest. This issue may result in
misunderstanding and conflict among the ethnic groups of Burma. In
addition, the conflict between Muslim community and Buddhist Arakanese
will follow. If potential bloody clash between Muslim and Buddhist would
have happened, BBC who encouraged and supported Rohingya and Bengalis
who created fake and false history of Arakan will have to take full
responsibilities of the causes.
According to them, the map showed that Rakhine (Arakan) State is
represented by Rohingya who are identified as a minority group in
Myanmar even though the state is inhabited by Rakhine People
(Arakanese). Furthermore, they said the map wrongfully depicted the Shan
State to be represented not only by “Shan” ethnics but also by “Wa”;
and that the Ayeyarwaddy Division and Kayah are represented by Karen and
so on which are not in conformity with Myanmar's official ethnic and
state definitions.
Some Myanmar netizens are asking BBC to apologize for publishing an
‘inaccurate' map of Myanmar's ethnic groups. They claim that BBC
reporter Anna Jones used an inaccurate map in an article she wrote on
November 5, 2010 titled “Bleak outlook for Burma's Ethnic Groups.”
BBC wants to play politics in Burma introducing their old
fellows Bengalis into the Rakhine State. BBC is lobbying the globe for
land for foreigners who illegally migrated many years ago threatening
native Rakhine people. They should know that the word Arakan is
not correct word geographically. British surveyor in early 19 century
when they invaded the Rakhine Coastal strip did survey and named the
land their own. He asked his bangali workers the name Rakhine. In
bangali accent, they couldn't pronounce properly and say as arrrr rakan.
Very funny. They put the name Arakan on the map. So, there is no Arakan
so that arakanese is meaningless. Rakhine is true name.
We feel very depress because of that much giant media CHEATED, LIED,
IRRESPONSIBLE AND BULLIED to all of us. Currently, there are so many
Burmese exile news agencies such as Democratic Voice of Burma (DVB),
Radio Free Asia (RFA Burmese), Voice of America (VOA Burmese), Mizzima
Online Megazie, Irrawaddy Online Media were systematically seizing the
news of our oppose on BBC. That’s why we are starting our campaign on
BBC and Anna Jones need to apologize for their insult to Burmese people
in this petition website. (http://www.thepetitionsite.com/485/--if-gte-mso-9xml-oofficedocumentsettings-oallowpngoallowpng-oofficedocumentsettings-xmlendif----if/).
According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Article 19),
Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right
includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek,
receive and impart information and ideas through any media and
regardless of frontiers. So that we have absolute right to voice ours
out and please support us to show your mercy on our Burmese people, who
were neglect by the world’s giant medias.
